Weaving fabric in strips that are nearly four inches across, the creator of this cloth had to calculate a precise arrangement to execute this striking composition. High contrast colors are used to set up pulses of pattern that add to the kaleidoscope of clothing which continues to thrive in West Africa. Ewe patrons would wear such cloth for festivals, religious celebrations, and important transitions in life.
