Label TextFor over a thousand years, West Africa has been one of the world’s largest cotton, indigo and textile producing regions. This cloth demonstrates the unusual choice that weavers of the region have made—to weave cloth in strips that are sewn together. Vertical striping sets up a rhythm of repetition that is then interrupted by blocks of design with blue accents. While shown flat here, this cloth was originally worn wrapped around the owner.
