Foliated bowl

Foliated bowl

mid 10th-late 13th Century

This piece shows the "iron wire and golden threads" crackling or crazing effect which is a result of the cooling process-when the glaze contracts more than the underlying clay body. After firing, the crazing pattern was then stained different colors.
