Charles Edenshaw

First Nations, Haida, 1839 - 1920

Edensaw made special objects for patrons, local officials and visiting dignitaries—such as carved canes that incorporated fine woods, sterling silver, and richly colored walrus ivory. Most include the provocative image of a snake wrapped around the shaft of the cane, small carved nubs made to imitate cut-off branches and a silver ferrule between the wood and ivory pieces.
