The Silent White Majority from the set of four dinner plates, "American Gothic"

The decorations for these dinner plates are tinged with dark humor, as Kottler co-opts the motif of the pious pioneer settlers from Grant Wood's celebrated painting American Gothic. Kottler's versions capture his ironic form of social and political commentary.
