Daphne
1963
"Centered on the back of this work is a reproduction of Antonio del Pollaiuolo's "Apollo and Daphne." An inscription, 'based on a photograph by Scott Hyde,' is also found there that most likely refers to the image of the nude on the front of the work. The collage's title seems to be fitting, for Hyde's female subject appears conjoined to the chair: In the Pollaiuolo painting the classical Greek mythological figure of Daphne is being turned into a tree as she flees Apollo's advances."
