Lined over-robe
19th century
This robe’s exterior has a supplementary weft, which is a kind of weave executed in Okinawa. The lining fabric was dyed with an Okinawa bingata stencil that can be dated to the 19th century, suggesting that the interior fabric is older than that of the exterior.
Cotton cloth with check (lattice pattern) warp, weft and double ikat and supplemental wefts (Oki., hanaui); lined with cotton cloth with paste-resist stencil decoration (Oki., bingata)
