Hooded cape

19th century

With a gilded leather hat and elegantly decorated with sailing boats and flying plovers, this cape was likely put on by the wife or a daughter of a daimyo (Japanese feudal lord) in the event of a fire. It was usually worn together with a haori jacket and chest protector.
