Cool Breeze in the Riverside Village

Date1922
Label Text"Takeuchi Seiho achieved success with Western-influenced innovations of Japanese painting in the modern era. His study of traditional techniques at Shij? school, the experience of art instruction in Europe and dedicated practice of sketching from real life, resulted in excellent perspective and skilled brushwork. Cool Breeze in the Riverside Village is Seih?'s view of a waterfront district at Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, where he spent ten days during his second trip to China in the 1920s. The artist revealed that when he viewed ordinary elements from a distance-such as houses, people, the simple garments worn everyday-he was stunned by the harmony of human life in nature."
