Label TextA punch bowl of the 19th century, this work is known as Martelé, a French word for hand-hammered, which was the name given to the line of one-of-a-kind silver unveiled by Gorham in New York’s Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in 1897. Works in this line were exhibited at the Exposition Universelle Internationale in Paris in 1900, where art nouveau was introduced to the world.
