Anthony Caro

British, 1924 - 2013

Anthony Caro was born in Surrey England, and studied sculpture at the Royal Academy Schools, London. He was an assistant to the world-renowned British sculptor Henry Moore (1951-1953). Caro first came to public attention with his 1963 exhibition at the Whitechapel Gallery. His work has since been featured in major museum and gallery exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art, New York in 1975; the Tate Gallery, London; the National Gallery London; and the Venice Biennale in 1999. He was knighted in 1987 and received the Order of Merit in 2000.
