Kim Yik-yung

Korean, born 1935

Born in Chungjin in North Korea, Kim Yik-yung graduated from Seoul National University in 1957, and then studied ceramics at Alfred University in New York. Her experience in the U.S. made her focus her efforts on exploring the beauty of traditional Korean pottery. After returning to Korea, her first solo exhibition was held in Seoul in 1965. In 2004, Kim Yik-yung was honored with a retrospective exhibition at the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Korea, which also named her Artist of the Year.

Seattle Art Museum respectfully acknowledges that we are on Indigenous land, the traditional territories of the Coast Salish people. We honor our ongoing connection to these communities past, present, and future.
