Patrick AmosFirst Nations, Nuu-chah-nulth, born 1957

Born in 1957 on Nootka Island near the west coast of Vancouver Island, Patrick

Amos is from the Hesquiat Band of the Nuu Chah Nulth nation, previously known

as the Nootkas until 1978. He moved to Victoria, studied at the Provincial Museum

of British Columbia, and trained with Art Thompson and Tim Paul. He started

designing limited edition prints in 1976 and began carving in 1979 when he

apprenticed with Tony Hunt Sr. He participates in his home communities of Port

Alberni and Ucluelet teaching and demonstrating his art.
