Henry Speck

Henry Speck was born in 1908 on Turnour Island and died 1971. He was the

successor to his father as chief of the Tia-wi-Tsis band of Kwakiults

(Kwakwaka'wakw). His Indian name was Ozistalis. He grew up in a traditional

period and carried the traditional styles through to the next generation. He was an

historically important artist in the transfer of Kwakiult art to the newer generations

in the 1960's and 70's.
