Label TextLiberia was founded in 1822 by freed African-Americans under the sponsorship of the American Colonization Society. President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation of 1862, freeing all slaves in the United States, was an important statement to the world against the oppression of slavery. For many Liberians, it launched a new wave of settlers looking for a freer life outside the United States.
