Maker
Jose Clemente Orozco
Mexican, 1883-1949
Label TextOrozco was best known for murals he painted in Mexico and the United States. During his adolescence, Orozco lost his left hand in an explosion that also damaged his sight and hearing. As a result of these diabilites, the artist felt strong empathy for people subject to any kind of hardship. This affinity for others' struggle gives Orozco's figures a sense of dignity even while their pain is fully exposed.
