Recumbent Stag

Date17th-18th century
Label TextThis little jade deer wrapped in a white lily is actually a pun for the phrase "May you receive the hundred emoluments from Heaven," referring to the government salary received as a result of one's official rank. Deer are also symbols of long life and are believed to be the only animals that can root out the sacred fungus of immortality.
