Luna Grande, Luna Blanca (Big Moon, White Moon)
Date1951
Label TextCarrington was first exposed to Surrealism in Paris in the 1920s and was well established in the movement's inner circle throughout the 1930s, but settled in Mexico in 1942. There, she found support among likeminded artists such as Frida Kahlo and Remedios Varo. This work reflects Carrington's interest in the occult and the mysteries of celestial bodies such as the moon.
