The Lowroad
Date2006
Label TextBo Bartlett is a nationally known realist painter who happens to call Vashon Island home. Much of the artist's output involves highly wrought, symbol-laden figurative compositions that are rooted in American art of the eastern seaboard (the artist also maintains a home/studio in Maine), but his day-to-day art practice involves all manner of studies and sketches. This work is one such image, drawn from observation along Vashon Highway. Its sense of weather, light, mystery and transitoriness are both banal and familiar, but hauntingly compelling.
