Label TextThis fluted porcelain form is covered with a smooth coral-red glaze emulating the appearance of thick layers of lacquer. The poem inscribed in gold was composed by the Qianlong emperor in praise of the superb lacquer workmanship in the Wu region (present-day Jiangsu province), although this simulation of lacquer in porcelain speaks more to Qianlong’s love of visual play.
