Cup

Date1723-35
Label TextInfluenced by European glass and enamels on metal and first used at Jingdezhen around 1720, famille rose (pink family) enamels-arsenic white, gold ruby-red, and lead-tin yellow-enabled the porcelain painter to achieve such painterly effects as the delicate shading of the tree peony shown here. In China, the tree peony was associated with kingship, wealth, and rank.
