Patrick Amos

First Nations, Nuu-chah-nulth, born 1957

Born in 1957 on Nootka Island near the west coast of Vancouver Island, Patrick
Amos is from the Hesquiat Band of the Nuu Chah Nulth nation, previously known
as the Nootkas until 1978. He moved to Victoria, studied at the Provincial Museum
of British Columbia, and trained with Art Thompson and Tim Paul. He started
designing limited edition prints in 1976 and began carving in 1979 when he
apprenticed with Tony Hunt Sr. He participates in his home communities of Port
Alberni and Ucluelet teaching and demonstrating his art.

Seattle Art Museum respectfully acknowledges that we are on Indigenous land, the traditional territories of the Coast Salish people. We honor our ongoing connection to these communities past, present, and future.
